Fantastic 3/4

Year 3/4

Week 10, Term 4

We can’t believe it’s already the end of the 2022 school year, this year has really flown! We have loved teaching every single one of your children this year and have all been amazed at how much all the students have learned since the beginning of the year.

What have we been up to?

In literacy, the students have explored narrative texts in the classroom by the teachers selecting a story from the library and going through with the students what makes up a narrative text. In explicit teaching, the students went through the orientation, the problem, and the solution. The students identified these parts by highlighting the different parts as a class, ordering introductions of narrative texts, writing about a character’s description, and going through the types of vocabulary that are included in narrative texts. For the last independent text, the students wrote their very own narrative text. It was really lovely reading these, as the students not only used their imaginations but have come so far in their writing since the start of the year.

In maths, the students have learned about data and statistics. The students have looked at and interpreted different types of graphs, such as bar graphs, picture graphs, column graphs, and more. They also learned how tally marks are used, estimated and counted a different number of items, wrote down the information which can be analysed from the different graphs, discussed which questions could be asked from the different graphs, and also compared one different type of graph to another. The students even made their own graphs by coming up with their own questions to ask their class and choosing how they wanted to interpret the information they gathered from all the graphs they learned about.

In science, the students finished their space projects and were able to present these in their science expo to other classes, other teachers, and a whole lot of parents who came to visit. We were so proud of the students and loved hearing them speak confidently to each person who came up to them. They were able to share some of the facts that they learned, showed their PowerPoint presentations, posters, pictures, and drawings, spoke about their 3D displays, and answered questions that were asked of them.

In inquiry, the students have completed their sacred Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander projects. They presented these projects on posters and had a chance to present their projects to the rest of the class. The students were really surprised to hear about how many sacred places were around Australia. They all worked really well together and made their presentations unique to them.

The 3/4 team would like to wish each and every one of you a very safe and happy new year. We also wanted to thank you for all your teamwork this year and congratulate all the Year Three and Four students and wish them continued success in 2023.
