Year Adviser Updates

Years 10 and 11

Year 10

What a busy term it was for Year 10!

In Week 8 Year 10 participated in Skills Week. This program was designed to give students some practical skills to help them become more Job Ready.  All students participated in a Skills Road workshop in which they were able identify the skills and attributes they already possess, and which careers would be best suited to these skills. Practical interview and resume building advice was also given in each of the workshops. Select students were also able to be involved in a First Aid Course, White Card Course and a Barista Course. All presenters were very impressed with the skills and conduct of the students. There were many coffees made and had in those two days!

Earlier in the term Year 10 Wellbeing Ambassadors were also able to participate in the Calibrate Program. This was valuable training for our ambassadors and once again Year 10 students represented our grade superbly.

All Year 10 students also had the opportunity to participate in the Souths Cares program facilitated by the South Sydney Rabbitohs Football club. The program provided valuable tips in building resilience and setting and achieving goals for their future.

Our Year 10 Music students made us proud with their performances across the formal assemblies and Busby’s Got Talent. It great to see such a wonderful display of our students’ talents.

Finally, Year 10 are to be congratulated on their completion of their Stage 5 courses. This was achieved through the students’ diligence and perseverance over the last two years.  It was a positive experience to celebrate this success at both their Formal Assembly and the school’s Presentation Night. It was a pleasure to present students with awards and medallions to recognise their hard work and effort.

This closes one chapter, ready for the final two years of Senior Schooling to begin. We both look forward to continuing to show our support for each student as they navigate this next stage. We wish you all a very happy and safe holiday!

Parents and Guardians of Year 12,

It's hard to believe the first term of the HSC course is behind us and what a massive term it has been!

Early this term we were lucky enough to join our prefect team on Prefect Camp in Collaroy. There, our wonderful leadership team completed team building activities and planned the initiatives they will lead in 2023. We were blown away by their devotion to the school values and inclusion in their discussions about the legacy they wish to leave behind. We feel privileged to have been a part of this process and can't wait to see their plans come to fruition.

The term has been jam packed with recognition for the achievements of students from our year group. In Week 9, we were honoured to give out Achievement Awards to students at our formal assembly. These students were recognised for their diligence in their subjects. Their commitment to their studies made us extremely proud.

Also in Week 9, our prefects, vice captains and captains hosted the James Busby High School Presentation Evening. Their professionalism, adaptability and confidence was noticed by students, teachers and parents alike and helped make the night a success. We had a number of Year 12 students recognised for a range of achievements. From academic excellence to sporting and leadership awards, it was clear to all that we have a diverse and talented year group (but we already knew that!). We applaud all recipients for making our year group proud.

It's impossible to mention events such as formal assembly and presentation evening without giving a special shout out to the brilliantly talented Year 12 music students. Their talents shone bright at each event and made them truly enjoyable. In fact, the talent in the Year 12 music class produced the winning performance at Busby's Got Talent!

Our fundraising committee has been hard at work with a fantastic start to ensuring we have a great Formal and Graduation next year. The committee has successfully run a number of fundraisers already and have planned some exciting events for next year. We have already had a number of Year 12s selling boxes of chocolates to reduce the price of their Formal tickets and will continue this next year.

A huge year lies ahead with only three more terms until the HSC! We wish all Year 12s a break which is equal parts productive and restful and always we thank the parents of Year 12 for your continued support.
