Shining Stars Showcase

After cancelations over the last two year and postponements throughout this year, the Shining Stars Showcase took place at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The showcase displayed the works of talented students with a disability after workshops with tutors throughout the year. This year, JBHS were lucky to gain places in three ensembles including dance music and visual arts. We had 15 students participate in the various artforms with 11 of them performing on the night.

The dancers performed their piece ‘Space Travel’, the music students banged out beats on their jambes creating very catchy tunes and our art students created a variety of works in ceramics, drawing and painting.

All students were wonderful ambassadors for our school and performed exceptionally well. We are very proud of you!

A big thank you to the staff who supported the students with this program – Ms Pinder, Mr Roberts, Mr Suljevic, Ms Au and Ms B for stepping in at the last minute.

Schools Spectacular

SCHOOL SPECTACULAR IS BACK! Even writing this brings a tear to my eye, what a week and what a show!

The Schools Spectacular is a one of a kind variety showcase displaying the talents of over 4700 public school students from all over the state. Currently held at Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, the Schools Spectacular is a world-class arena production that involves singing, dancing, music, acrobatics etc that has been a stepping stone for several Australian singers, songwriters and musicians over the years. This year’s theme was ‘Creating the Magic’ and I can most certainly say, it was magic!

This year, JBHS was accepted in to three ensembles, D’ARTS (students with a disability), the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble and Spec Fest (outside entertainment on the forecourt of the arena). This is the most students we have ever had in the show!

Our D’Arts dancers Jonathan, Eric, Yousif, Matthew, Hugo, Sam, Karma and Kelli performed with their peers from all over the state to the hit song ‘Crowd Go Crazy’.

Our Aboriginal dancers Shelly, Jordyn and Tallis captivated the audience with a dance to a beautiful song called ‘Miminga’ which was choreographed by the internationally renowned aboriginal dance company – Bangarra.

Our Spec Fest students Flavia, Kritisha, Sytori, Karen, Sa and Leilani performed in a flashmob in amongst a variety of free outside entertainment. They were aslo lucky enough to get a free ticket to watch the show.

The Spec experience is so much more than just the show itself, these students have been able to work with industry professionals, make many new friends, support each other, perform at an arena in front of thousands of people, and best of all make memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. I am so proud of them and watching them grow throughout the Spec journey is the reason the experience is so great!

A very big thank you to the staff that supported me as well as the students on the Spec journey. In particular I would like to thank Ms Pinder, Mr Swindells and Mr Roberts for giving up many days, nights and a Saturday for rehearsals and performances (just Spec week alone was over 60hrs) as well as Mr Sanchez and Julie Moon for accompanying our Spec Fest dancers on the Friday of Spec week.

We can’t wait to (hopefully) do it all again next year.

The Schools Spectacular was broadcast on Channel 7 on Saturday 17th December.

PCYC - Fit for Life

Fit for Life has wrapped up for the year. Despite the early starts, the students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the program and we look forward to being involved again next year. We hope to get more students on board next year so if you are interested, please talk to Ms Cattanach or Julie Moon. A special mention goes to our most consistent attendee this year, Tyler of year 8. Tyler has attended most weeks and participated in a variety of fitness activities, formed a great relationship with the PCYC staff and has enjoyed many a good breakfast to start the day. Thank you to Mr Zhang and Julie Moon for accompanying the students each Wednesday.
