School Council News

Dear friends,

As we accelerate towards the end of term 4 and the summer holidays, I wanted to provide a final update from School Council.

As many of you will appreciate, we have had 8 new school Councillors appointed this year and we have all been working hard to understand the school operations and how we can have a positive influence.

I want to thank and acknowledge everyone’s contribution to Council – the parents, the teachers and the administrators – who have all worked to raise funds, improve our grounds and bring the community back together. I’ve personally enjoyed meeting new families and hearing many different perspectives and opinions on how we can continue to make meaningful offerings to all in the community.

At our last Council meeting, we were on the eve of the first School Fair in 3 years, and I am sure that you will agree that this was a huge success. Despite the threatening weather, there were many smiles and colourful hairstyles. Special thanks must go to  Claire Sandow, Victoria Keogh and Rohan Obst who were our champions in organising the event and logistics, and ensuring all ran to plan. A very warm thank you to all the parent and community volunteers who helped with the silent auction, the stalls and logistics on the day – there are too many to mention by name, but we warmly appreciate all of your efforts that ensured the success of our major fundraising and community event at CHPS.  The Fair exceeded our fundraising expectations, raising over $90,000.  This money will be directed towards new carpet in the MPR, improvements to the Gold St playground, replacing flooring in the MPR toilets and painting classrooms.

In addition to the fair, CHPS have raised significant funds this year through the colour run, the trivia night and the comedy night, all of which have all contributed to funding needed to refurbish our all gender toilets and new basketball rings.

Our community connections have also run successful coffee carts, picnics in the park and parent dinners. A sub-committee of Councillors was formed to select, interview and appoint a new OSHC provider, Team Kids, who will commence service in early January 2023. We are particularly proud of our burgeoning partnership with local community organisation Djirri, championed by Susan Williamson. The organisation is extremely grateful for our meaningful contributions to their organisation and community, and we look forward to further opportunities to grow this partnership in future.

We always welcome feedback from the school community and look forward to a new year at CHPS which will include some exciting new changes including electronic payments for lunch orders through Compass. We expect to see this introduced during term one.  You can also now make your school contributions through Compass, and Council is thrilled to see that we have already accepted 35% of the fees for 2023 via this method.

On behalf of Council we wish you and your families a relaxing and safe holiday period ahead, and we look forward to a new year at CHPS in 2023.

Regards,

Bryony
