We sincerely hope that the commencement of the first term has been relatively smooth for all students and trust that the Homeroom Mentor Teacher meetings have provided a strong foundation for partnership between home and school. At Mount Alvernia College, teachers understand the importance of that partnership and will make contact with parents where there are concerns around student behaviour or outcomes.

Throughout 2022, the College made significant progress behind the scenes, in preparation for the role out of MyMtA – which is an encompassing learning management system. We understand that over the last couple of years, students have worked across multiple platforms. To some extent, they will continue to do so, as different subject areas will continue to use online platforms that meet the unique needs of their discipline. However, for the most part, all information related to learning will eventually be available to students and parents through MyMtA.

What does this mean for 2023?

Throughout 2023, students will be able to access all learning material through MyMtA. This includes access to:

  • Course overviews
  • Learning resources
  • Flipped learning videos
  • OneNote
  • Assignment Tasks

Parents will be able to access the course and unit pages, so that they have a birds-eye view over student learning, with the understanding that teachers will make richer meaning of these resources in the unique context of their own classrooms. Where students have been absent, it will not be necessary to contact individual teachers for work. This will be available automatically to students through the learning platform.

Parents and students will also be able to access other ‘Academics’ resources from MyMtA. Through the ‘Academic Tile’ parents will be able to access:

  • Year level stationery lists
  • Assessment calendars
  • Exam schedules
  • Tips on high impact learning strategies
  • Academic mentoring support schedule

I would also ask parents to engage with the ‘Futures and Subjects’ tile, where the following information is available:

  • Pathway information
  • Careers information
  • Subject handbooks

For 2023, assessment feedback and results will remain in iWise – which is accessible to parents through MyMtA.

The aim here is to reduce the need for students and parents to work across multiple platforms – in short, to ensure a more seamless user experience. We believe this is important to lessen the cognitive overload and dissonance.

We would ask all parents to ensure they have logged into MyMtA, to ensure they can engage fully in the partnership between  home and school.

Peace and all good,

Kath Little
