Year 7 Start Up Program

Year 7 Startup Program

Dear Parents/Carers and Students,

It is my pleasure to share with you the great start that our Year 7 students have had to their time at Hampton Park Secondary College. The students have shown tremendous enthusiasm, dedication, and a positive attitude towards every activity over their first week, making it a joy to see them grow and develop in both their academic and social lives.

Since the beginning of the term, the Year 7 students have been actively involved in various activities and sessions, including an Amazing Race, Virtual Reality flights, peer support sessions, and team-building exercises as a mentor class. We have worked on connecting students to the school ICT platforms, getting organised with understanding our timetables and using our diaries, as well as what it means to be a HP learner. The students have taken ownership of their learning, and it is evident in the quality of their work and their growing confidence over the course of the week.

In addition to their startup sessions, the Year 7 students have been quick to establish strong relationships with their peers and teachers. Their positive attitudes, friendly demeanour, and willingness to support one another have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the classrooms and around the school.

We have been particularly impressed by the way in which our Year 7 students have adapted to their new learning environment. As we know, Secondary school can be quite different to what they have been used to in primary. They have shown great resilience, independence, and have taken full advantage of the new and exciting opportunities offered through technology to enhance their learning as well as adjusting to using lockers, changing classrooms and navigating their way to different areas within the school. We held our first House Challenge last week, which included a tug of war competition, egg and spoon races, a baton relay and tunnel ball.

Students also had the opportunity to jump on board the Casey 360 Bus, a mobile youth services bus where students can learn about the available youth services in Casey and enjoy games and activities.

The results were as follows:

Walton 1: 74

Walton 2: 34

Freeman 1: 43

Freeman 2: 65

Mabo 1: 24

Mabo 2: 42

Hollows 1: 58

Hollows 2: 83

Overall house winner: Hollows!

In conclusion, we are thrilled with the great start that our Year 7 students have had this school year. We are confident that they will continue to grow and thrive in their academic and personal lives and look forward to supporting them every step of the way.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards, Brad Andrews
