Geography Cake Competition

LET'S EAT CAKE!

Cakes are used to help us celebrate, celebrate events, people and occasions.

This term we had our Open Night and many students of our community celebrated by entering the Annual Geography Cake Competition. Students across our school worked independently, in pairs and in teams to put their minds and creative skills to work to design and make cakes.

Large cakes, small cakes, cupcakes and I can’t believe this is a cake were all created across the weekend. Thanks to the parents who hosted and allowed their kitchens to be transformed by mountains of sugar, coloured fondant and excited entrants.

Andrew A. of 7A built the Greek acropolis out of cookies and chocolate while Daria D. 7C decorated a cake of her birth city, Moscow. Scarlet L. of 7C, Carys H. of 7C, Amelia P. of 7C and Tayla M. of 7C created a multi-layered cake they called Land, Sky and Sea.

Taiven P-C of 7C and Alex P-J of 7E made a cake of Australia that was so enticing that the boys could not wait to eat, consuming Tasmania before the judging. Imaan Y. of 7A and Lamar A. of 7A made a large number of cupcakes and decorated them with flags of a wide range of diverse countries. Over twenty cakes were entered from students in Year 7 to Year 10. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at and celebrating the student's achievements of ideas and design based around the theme of Geography.

Several groups of people in our community voted for their favourite cake. Parents and primary school students of our community on the Open Night awarded The Community Choice Award, a DSC student awarded the Student Choice Award and staff at DSC voted for the Teachers’ Choice Award.
