Sport in Term 1

We have hit the ground running with sport in term 1 and students have had a very successful start to the year getting involved and representing the college in a range of sports.

ROUND ROBIN

We began the term with our Senior School round robin sending out Volleyball, Cricket, Tennis and Baseball teams. Our Senior Boys Volleyball B team and Tennis team were runners up on the day. Well done boys!

In week 4, after a snap lockdown, we managed to send out our year 8 round robin teams for Basketball, Tennis and Cricket. All our teams played and represented the College exceptionally well, with our Boy’s Cricket team finishing as runners up. Our Boys Basketball A team were winners of the day and will progress to the next round of the competition which will be held during Term 4. Well done to our year 8’s for being so resilient and ready to play after another stint of online learning!

In week 5, our Intermediate teams made up of year 9 and 10 students played in the Volleyball, Cricket and Tennis round robin. Everyone participated and played well on the day!

Our year 7 students competed in their first-round robins on the 17th of March. We had lots of enthusiasm and over 30 students who put their names down to represent the College in Boy’s Tennis alone! Our Boy's Basketball team finished as runners up on the day and our Girl's A team were winners of their competition. The Girls A team will now move to the next round of competition held in Term 4. Well done girls!

SWIMMING CARNIVAL

During week six, we held our swimming trials, running the event a little different to usual due to the ever-changing nature of the COVID pandemic and government restrictions. It was a successful day with the year 12’s enjoying the festivities and participating in diving and swimming events.

We had 60 students from year 7 – 11 attend and compete in swimming events. It was a freezing cold March day only reaching a top of 18 degrees. Our students were amazing, all swimming to their best ability in the conditions.

Our age group champions were:

The following week, 25 students competed in the division swimming competition at Boroondara Sports Complex, against other local schools - Balwyn High School, Camberwell High School, Canterbury Girls Secondary School and Kew High School. All our students competed really well against strong competition, with records being broken by students from other schools. It certainly was a tough competition!

Kevin Z. 7E, Thomas H. 8G, Connor K. 8I and Olivia B. 9A won their events and progressed to the Eastern Metro Region event held on the 23rd of March at Aquanation in Ringwood.

At the Eastern Metro Region event, Thomas came 5th in the 200m freestyle and Connor came 2nd in the 400m freestyle. Olivia had a busy day swimming in three events, finishing 2nd in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly, and won the 200m individual medley event. She will now progress to the State Competition for the 200m individual medley, which will take place on the 22nd of April.

The College community wish Olivia the best of luck as she competes in the Australian National Swimming Championships in Queensland over the Easter school holidays!

HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY

To wrap up a busy term of sport, we finished with House Cross Country on Thursday, 25 March. All year 7 and 8’s competed and students in year 9 – 11 opted in if they wanted to participate in the event. We braved the elements, and with a slight change to the course, we were able to run the event safely and successfully.  Students and teachers should all be very proud of their efforts as they demonstrated the school values of resilience, teamwork, respect and responsibility getting through the event with smiles on their faces.

A massive thank you to all our coaches who have volunteered their time to training and coaching teams this term, the Sport Program would not be possible without these staff members and their willingness to support our students.

We are looking forward to another busy term in Term 2 with our Middle School teams participating in Badminton, Football, Netball and Soccer and our Senior School Teams competing in Badminton, Basketball, Hockey, Netball, Football, Soccer and Table Tennis.
