VCAL Garden

During Term 1, as part of the subject of Personal Development Skills, the Year 11 Intermediate VCAL students have planned, researched and landscaped a garden area outside the new W Block building.

As part of this project, students have selected and measured dimensions for the required area, researched thoroughly on sustainable and indigenous plants that would be most compatible with the particular soil mixture of the area, researched and planned for the maintenance required, designed the garden, budgeted and put together the required number of plants, as well as put together a design brief outlining to staff the purpose, outcomes and stages of this project.

They have also collaborated in teams to dig the soil, plant, mulch and water the area. This project was no doubt challenging but has enabled students to really apply their learning in a project-based environment. We have been so proud of the way students have jumped right in and asked great questions, have produced excellent plans and have worked hard in establishing a professional-looking garden. We would like to thank Tim Sprigg and the school buildings and maintenance team for their assistance and advice throughout this project. Congratulations to all the students of the VCAL Intermediate program for their exemplary work in Term 1.
