Focus on Learning
Stage 2 - Mrs Wilson
What the MaST project looks like in the 3/4 room.
The stage 2 room this year is doing the new Mathematics program that is being rolled out by the Catholic Schools Office. This program was undertaken in the 1/2 classroom last year so it is nothing new to our year 3 children. However it is new to our year 4 children and myself. The program is a huge success in our room and it is amazing to see the love of learning on the children's faces each morning. Mrs Long joins us most mornings and we all have a great start to the day. The children are learning at their level and enjoy a more hands on approach to Mathematics. There is limited teacher talk and more time actually doing the activities. The students are learning and practising strategies that will aid their ability to solve the mathematical problems. The children then are having to explain their thinking as they solve the problems and explore whether the strategy that they used was the most efficient way of solving the problem. There is a lot of talking, practising, and hands on manipulation of concrete materials. There is a lot of fun and enjoyment, which is rewarding to see each and every morning.
