Dance Showcase

  Semester One

On Tuesday 25th May, almost 100 students took to the stage for the first Greater Shepparton Secondary College Showcase, held at Riverlinks Westside. It was a spectacular performance and a very proud GSSC moment for all involved. Students performed a range of dances, including a special Welcome dance by Marrung Dance Group, dances created with the Australian Ballet, Year 12 Skill solos and Year 10 choreography assignments. Year 9,10,11 and 12 class groups performed pieces based on global issues such as refugees, homelessness and the Berlin Wall.

We are very proud of the contributions these students have made from Year 7-12, across all three campuses. Congratulations to all involved and a special thank you to all staff who assisted with ushering, backstage, supervision and stage management. A special thank you to Satinder Kaur for assistance with the Punjabi group and Tanya Sayers, Val Atkinson and Georgia Campbell for assisting the Marrung Group.

Dance Teachers

Awaken Dance Theatre Company

Awaken Dance Theatre Company are thrilled to return with another powerful piece of dance theatre. This contemporary piece explores our personal journeys through the unknown from a raw, urgent and inward perspective and champions the strength Within to propel forward, navigating through the cycle of normal, abnormal and the new normal. When the consistencies of life are taken away, who and what matters most to us? Who we are, comes from Within. How we respond, comes from Within. Adaptation and the strength to endure, comes from Within

GSSC Dance Teacher, Kyla McGregor, founded Awaken 4 years ago as a not for profit community youth organisation as an extension program for her students and other young local dancers from our community. We are very proud of the 14 GSSC students who are preparing to perform in Awaken Dance Theatre Company’s latest work “Within”, as a part of the Shepparton Festival on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June at Riverlinks Westside, Mooroopna. Tickets are available through www.riverlinksvenues.com.au. Congratulations to the following students and a special mention to Year 12 student Harry Watson who has taken on a leadership role as Assistant Choreographer / Rehearsal Coach for this performance.
