Maths in Year Two!

So far this term in Year Two we have been exploring topics from Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.

In Number and Algebra, students have been applying their number sense and strategies for counting and representing numbers and explore the properties of numbers. We have been focussing on place value, fractions, addition and subtraction building to automatic recall of number facts to 20. In the remainder of the term we will be covering Addition and Subtraction of two and three digit numbers and Money recognition and collections.

Students have enjoyed completing a lot of hands on activities such as playing race to 120, drawing cards to make the biggest number, or rolling dice then adding the faces to create the biggest total.

In Measurement and Geometry, students have been developing their understanding of Calendars. We are focussing on reading and recording time on both digital and analogue clocks next week.

In Statistics and Probability students have identified questions, collecting, check and classifying data. Students thoroughly enjoyed collecting data on the vehicles on Morris Road from the safety of our playground. They then created tables and graphs. Students were challenged to analyse their findings.

Take Home Readers

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose two readers from school to take home and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. We urge families to read daily to help support the learning that is happening within the classroom.

Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them on Friday the same week.
