Maths in Foundation!

Over the past couple of weeks, students have been investigating Statistics and Probability and learning all about addition.

We have been learning about the purpose of asking yes or no questions in order to collect data. They have also been investigating how we display data in graphs so that we can get information quickly and easily. Students have participated in lots of fun activities whilst we have been investigating the concept of Statistics and Probability. These activities have included, developing questions that have a yes or no answer, creating Yes/No paddle pop answer cards and making human graphs.

The Foundation students have also been exploring the concept of Addition - adding two groups together to get the total amount, as well as the mathematical symbols that we use when we are completing addition equations. They have learned that the + symbol means that we are adding two groups together and the = symbol is the total amount. Students have been completing fun, hands-on activities including rolling dice and using concrete materials to investigate the concept of how to add two groups of objects and numbers together.

In pairs they used giant ladybirds to help them add two groups of spots and then wrote the corresponding equation.

Assembly

Last week we had a very first 'real' Assembly in the Gym. It was a great experience for the Foundation students and they really loved it! They especially enjoyed the performance  by the Combettes! Thank you to all the parents that attended.

Show and Tell

As part of our Speaking and Listening program, Show and Tell will commence in week 3 (next week) and will run four days a week. This is a great opportunity for your child to become accustomed to speaking in front of an audience and we strongly encourage them to participate. We use the Show and Tell program to form part of our speaking and listening assessment. There will be specific topics for each week, as shown below. The day that your child will have show and tell is dependent of their house colour:

Monday - Coolibah (blue), Tuesday - Mulga (green),

Thursday - Waratah (red) and Friday - Wattle (yellow).

Specialist Timetable

Please note the following information regarding the days that each grade has specialist classes.  * These times are subject to change during school-wide events (eg: swimming timetables) *
