Performing Arts

Music, Drama, Dance and Instrumental Music Program

Welcome to Performing Arts, Term 2!

During Term 1 and Term 2, we will be focusing on drama in the performing arts classroom. This term students in years 3 to 6 will be learning about the elements of drama and using them to discuss and respond to various forms of drama. The Year 3 to 6s will also be performing scripted plays.

This week enjoy a nice puppet permance of the story 'Stone Soup'.

Have a great week!

HPS Digital Concert Hall

This week have a listen to our amazing Novice Band musicians. It's really hard to remember all the note names and finger positions when you are beginning an instrument so it is really impressive to hear Faaz and Tahlia both play so fluently.  A big congratulations to both of you! Click the links below to have a listen.

If you would like to participate in the HPS Digital Concert Hall please send an audio recording to erin.stoddart@education.vic.gov.au or upload to the Instrumental Music class on seesaw. All student recordings are welcome, whether you have music lessons at school or outside of school. :)

NAME:  Andy   CLASS: 3/4C

INSTRUMENT: Percussion – Glockenspiel, Snare Drum, Bass Drum

What is your favourite thing about your instrument?

When I hit the snare drum, it makes a really satisfying sound. Also, I like the glockenspiel because it makes a light and gentle sound.

What is something interesting that you have learnt so far in your lessons or at band?

For the snare drum, I learnt flams and buzzes. They’re really cool! I also learnt to make a minim on the glockenspiel – tap one note lots of times.

What is the most exciting thing about learning an instrument at HPS?

I get to be in the band and in the newsletter.

Applications are still open for instrumental music lessons in Term 2, 2021!

At Highvale Primary School, we offer a concert band program where students learn music through learning to play an instrument, both on their own and as part of a group. Instruments offered include woodwind, brass and percussion. Places are open to any student in Grade 2-6 and instruments are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Places are still available for trumpet, trombone, euphonium, saxophone and possibly clarinet. All other instrument requests will be placed on a waiting list. See the teacher demonstrations of each instrument below.

The program information flyer,  instrumental music procedures and enrolment form can be found on School Stream under the 'Instrumental Music' tab.
