We have been in correspondence with the Wurundjeri Tribe Council for assistance with naming the Outdoor Learning Space in the Woi-wurrung language. We have also asked for recommendations for names for our two school buildings based on the local iconic species. As soon as we have heard back from Wurundjeri Elder, Aunty Gail, we will share her feedback with the school community.

Whole School Picnic Tomorrow Friday 14 May after Opening Ceremony for the Outdoor Learning Space

We would like to invite all CNPS Families to stay at school at the conclusion of the Assembly and Ceremony to have an afternoon picnic on the school grounds. Our school community has been missing community events over the past 12 months, including two of our Lee Street Fetes. We hope that the rain holds off so that we can still go ahead with this community event.

Eid al-Fitr

Our Muslim families have been celebrating Eid al-Fitr over the past two days. Eid al-Fitr

also called the "Festival of Breaking the Fast" or Eid, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. We would like to share out best wishes to all CNPS families celebrating Eid today.

National Walk to School Day - Tomorrow Friday 14 May

Tomorrow is Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) an annual, national event when all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment. Tomorrow morning, our local Greens MP, Ellen Sandell will be visiting our Junior School Council along with two olympians to celebrate the day.

Staff Professional Learning - Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) Action Teams

Yesterday afternoon, our teachers met in AIP Action Teams to commence work on key improvement strategies outlined within our AIP. This term these AIP Action Teams will meet three times to continue this important work to improve the teaching and learning and community engagement within our school and school community.

For the first time we also invited interested parents/carers to attend these meetings to assist with this work. We very much appreciate the levels of engagement that we have with our school community in supporting us with our ongoing school improvement.

The four AIP Action Teams are:

Respectful Relationships/Schoolwide Positive Behaviours (Happy, Healthy & Active Kids Priority)

Reconciliation Action Plan (Connected Schools Priority)

Writer’s Festival (Learning Extension & Catch Up Priority)

School Production (Happy, Healthy & Active Kids Priority)

Actions and work completed by the teams were:

RR/SWPB Team - This team is working towards presenting a school community information session on  Respectful Relationships. This session will be conducted on Wednesday 9 June from 3:40-4:40. This session will be conducted on Zoom and will be recorded for families to access if they are unable to attend this session.

RAP Team - The action plan consists of 14 actions so the team met together to prioritise this list and began to look at the Acknowledgement of Country. The school wishes to embed student agency within the acknowledgement and make it unique to our school.

Writer’s Festival Team - This looked at setting a whole school date in term 4 – Wednesday 20th October. A call out was made to all parents and carers, seeking anyone in the literacy field who may be willing to run workshops with our students on this day.

School Production Team - This team discussed where each class and leads were at with rehearsals and where to next in supporting the students to learn their lines, blocking, dances and songs. We looked at the roles and responsibilities that need to be filled to support the production. We also discussed costumes and will send out information to families in the next week to allow families time to source the items.

We are looking for any parents who have skills in music, dance, drama, costume design, set design, stage management, hair and make-up, sound and lighting skills or would just like to be involved in the production.
