Year 7 Humanities

Year 7A students are focussing on the study of History this term and have been looking at ‘The Ancient World’.  Within this topic we have been finding out more about Ancient China – its geography, its people and influences.  Today we revised all of our learnings by working collaboratively in small groups. Students were responsible for summarising different areas of study and making decisions about key information. They used a Lotus Diagram to organise their thinking and their writing and helps to define key concepts that are part of a broader picture.  The centre of the diagram represents the main idea, with eight surrounding boxes representing parts of that main idea.  Students worked well together and all their efforts were united when we put all parts of the diagram together.

Year 10 Legal Studies

Over the past semester in Year 10 Legal Studies, we studied different topics to help us understand the Legal System, how it operates and the processes and procedures used to make it function. We began by looking into criminal and civil law cases, and investigating how laws are made including the role of parliament and members of parliament.

We explored the concept of social cohesion and how laws aim to protect individuals and groups, through case studies such as the Jill Meagher criminal case and Dr Grant’s v Australian Knitting Mills (underpants civil case), plus many more interesting cases. This semester we were joined by a student teacher, Mr Powell, who opened us up to different topics, discovering and diving into the Port Arthur massacre, capital punishment, and The Bali 9 case.

Towards the end of term we have focused on Australia’s International relations and obligations, which is especially important in a COVID world.

For Emma and I, this has been the most interesting subject we have participated in.
