Principal's Report

As of today, we are in our fourth day of a seven day circuit breaker lockdown to swiftly address the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

We have swung into remote and flexible learning. Students are following their timetabled classes and their teachers’ lesson plans. They are encouraged to stay mentally well and physically healthy during this period of time. Regular updates via Compass are being communicated to parents/carers and students as soon as we receive them from the Department of Education. I want to acknowledge the marvellous work of the staff at Emerald Secondary College for creating lessons tailored to meet these times and thank families for the adjustments they are making to ensure that their children have a positive environment from which to continue learning. Students know what they have to do and we are ready to help them achieve their best. They also know that Respect is the guiding principle for our online interactions.

Education Week

Many activities ran in this inaugural week which brought the community together and created such a positive vibe at the college.  There were high numbers of students, teachers and educational support staff engaged in the staff -student debate, the trivia competition, the volley ball competition, the Astronomy club, tablet making and taiko drumming as well as all the other activities that run daily from the Wellbeing centre and enrich the interactions in our community. It is a shame that the lockdown ended the week early, but we know that there is an appetite for such spirited activities. We celebrated the wonderful work all our staff who continue to make Emerald Secondary College vibrant and exciting. It was also terrific to see a presentation from the Emerald Library who are inviting students to come in and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere to study or hang out with friends. Library membership allows access to so many useful resources too.

Attitudes to School Survey

The date for the survey completion has been extended and further information will be provided to parents/carers/students about new dates.

A proud parent sent this into us

Hello ESC Thought you might be interested in the achievement of one of your past students. Fern ( née Fielder) is a newly published author. She has written a book to be published. It is actually a very funny recollection of the antics of a family in COVID lockdown last year…

Cheers Ellen Fielder (proud parent)
