Mandatory Notification Requirements

It is important that all staff, as mandatory notifiers, understand their legal requirements to report suspected abuse/neglect. Staff from the Cooper Pedy office of the Department for Child Protection are available to take a phone call at anytime to answer your questions regarding child safety.

Child abuse report line (CARL)

To report a suspected case of child abuse or neglect call the child abuse report line (CARL): 13 14 78.

The report line is available 24 hours a day.

All serious concerns must be reported via the report line and not via the online reporting system. Serious concerns include when you suspect a child or infant is in imminent or immediate danger of:

  • serious injury
  • chronic neglect
  • or when a child is in care of the department and you suspect they are being abused or neglected

Non-serious concerns can be reported online. To make a report online you must register and login to the online child protection reporting system.
