Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Laudato Si’ Week 2021 will take place from May 16-25 with global events and hundreds of local and regional events organised by partners around the world.

The week will also be the culmination of the Special Laudato Si' Anniversary Year (proposed by Pope Francis from May 2020 to May 2021) and the celebration of the great progress the entire Church has made on its journey towards ecological conversion.

Laudato Si' Week 2021 will also be a time to reflect on what the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us and to prepare for the future with hope.

Laudato Si’ Week began as a way to celebrate the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ world-changing papal encyclical letter, “Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home.”

The encyclical has helped the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics better understand that “everything is connected” and put millennia of Catholic teaching in the context of today’s ecological crisis and climate emergency.

Pope Francis finished writing Laudato Si’ on 24 May 2015, and one year later, thousands of Catholics united to celebrate the encyclical that had already spurred prayer and action for our common home.

Reflection

  1. What we are called to do about the environment?
  2. What is stopping us from doing what we are called to do?
  3. What we can do about it?

A Prayer for Our Earth

All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts of those
who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature.

As we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.

Pope Francis,
Laudato Si
