Senior Basketball team in action at the State Champs

Senior Basketball

In the last week of Term 3 our Senior Girls' basketball team competed in the State Basketball Championships at MSAC in Albert Park. To be amongst the top eight teams in the state is an amazing achievement.

In their first match of the day the against Box Hill our team were caught off guard a little, with their opposition coming out hard and fast and scoring early.  Box Hill continued their dominance throughout the match to come away with the win 55 -15.

In the second match our team were fired up and ready to take on Mildura.  This game was a real nail biter with Northcote matching them all over the court. In the dying seconds, Mildura was 2 points up, our coach called a time out with 3 seconds to go, hoping to stop Mildura’s run and maybe inspire a 3 pointer.  Unfortunately once back on the court they just couldn’t make it and Mildura came away with the win 33 – 31.

In our third and final match against Maribyrnong, our team knew they were up against some very talented players. The girls were showing a lot more confidence than in their first match against Box Hill.  They certainly made Maribyrnong work a little harder than they thought but just couldn’t match the specialist sports school who were landing almost every shot they put up. Maribyrnong defeated our girls 54-31 which was a lot closer than they would have imagined. Maribyrnong finished off the day as overall winners after defeating the Pool B winner Berwick Secondary College.  A big thank you to Anthony Stafford for coaching the girls, to Molly McErlain for scoring and a huge congratulations to all of the team members.

Table Tennis

In addition to the Year 7 and 8 Table Tennis victories reported last term, the Year 9 Boys' team also beat all four of their opponents: Reservoir, Lalor, Lalor North and Thornbury. What great results for the Table Tennis teams: congratulations to the players and to coach Bill Neal.

Rosie Thyer - State Soccer Representative

Congratulations to Rosier Thyer of Year 11 who represented Victoria in the U18 Girls School Sport Victorian Soccer team in the final week of last term.  Rosie travelled to Brisbane for the competition, where the team played 5 matches, battling the (for Melbournians!) unaccustomed heat. They were highly successful, coming second overall.
