A big welcome to Term Four from the Careers Desk! It’s been a hectic start with the finalisation of SEAS and Scholarship applications for Year 12 students, and the commencement of Morrisby interviews for Year 9s.
Year 12 Students
Students who are undertaking the VCAL program, an unscored VCE, or are not applying for courses next year should have attended an appointment with me to discuss plans. If you have not already arranged a meeting, please do so in the next couple of weeks.
Planning on studying teaching?? Year 12s applying for teaching courses are reminded that you MUST complete your CASPer to be eligible. There are only two test dates left prior to first round offers in December. Go to www.takecasper.com to register for your session!
Traineeships
Looking for a traineeship? Traineeships are a great way to learn on the job, whilst you explore an area of interest for your future career. Check out the following opportunities:
PPG Aerospace, a global manufacturer of paint and coatings and are excellent opportunities to start a career. Candidates who completed school last year or are completing this year are preferable. Start in late 2019.
Laboratory Technician Traineeship
Have a passion for science and chemistry? Keen to work in a laboratory but don't want to go to university? A unique opportunity has arisen in Melbourne's north-west to complete a Laboratory Technician Traineeship! This is the perfect opportunity for school leavers who would like to build on their genuine interest in science and chemistry.
In this 12 month traineeship, you will work full-time with a well-known manufacturer of paints and coatings, while also completing a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. You will develop skills and gain knowledge in quality control, preventative maintenance, calibrations and the production process.
Business & Customer Service Traineeship
Have some customer service experience from hospitality or retail, and keen to take your career to the next level? We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed candidate to complete a 12 month mentored business traineeship with a well-known global business in Melbourne's north-west.
This role will involve providing exceptional customer service over the phone, and completing administration tasks such as quotes and order administration, while also completing a Certificate III in Business.

Year 9s - Morrisby Careers Interviews
Morrisby interviews are underway!! The feedback from students who completed their interview last Thursday was overwhelmingly positive. Interviews will continue this week and all students are reminded to check Compass carefully and arrive five minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
Work Experience 2020 - information for current Year 9s
In 2020 our current Year 9 students will have the opportunity to do one week of work experience as part of their careers program. Students will have time to investigate their options, complete their resume and arrangement forms during term one and early term two. The dates for Year 10 Work Experience in 2020 will be Monday May 11 - Friday May 15. All Year 10 students will be expected to be out on placement during that week.
WORK EXPERIENCE WITH THE DEFENCE FORCE

- ease the transition of students into the workplace; and
- contribute to the development of the skills of young people.

Year 11 and 12 students interested in Agriculture
The University of Tasmania is offering science students an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the booming Tasmanian agriculture industry with the 'Feed your Mind, Feed the World' 2019 experience.
This is a wonderful hands-on experience for Year 11 & 12 students and is free-of-charge. Applications close on the 25th of October 2019.
The program has been specially designed for students to learn about the wide range of career opportunities for agriculture graduates.
Over three days, the students will experience the inner workings of successful businesses, including a robotic dairy, commercial flower producer, cider orchard and vegetable processor.
This experience will be held at Camp Clayton in Ulverstone, from December 9 to 11. It is free to attend and open to all Year 11 and 12 students across Australia. Transport can be arranged for students arriving in Hobart, Launceston or Devonport.
