Art Show

The 35th Annual Mount View Art Show has been a great success. This year we had 570 pieces of art on display, well up from previous years. The expansion of the Art Show to include Gallery 3 allowed the uncluttered display of all the art works and also ease of movement for all patrons. The display of students’ art alongside the work of professional artist was also a further extension of the Art Show. All profits from the Art Show will be put towards the students’ Visual Arts program in 2020 thereby benefiting all Mount View students.

Camp Australia

While the Art Show was underway Camp Australia conducted the Out of School Hours Care Program in the Staffroom, Principal’s Office and the Meeting Room. Since the Art Show’s conclusion OoSHC has been moved to Gallery 3 (Multi-purpose Room) and the lower floor of the Senior Learning Centre. This increase in space will allow the OoSHC Program to cater for increasing numbers. This will be appreciated by many of our working parents. Breakfast and afternoon snacks can take place in the Senior Learning Centre which has running water. Indoor activities will take place in Gallery 3 and the Senior Learning Centre while outdoor activities will continue as usual. The additional advantage is that the school can now have two fully operational Art Rooms available for the full school day. A clear advantage to all students.

Prep Swimming

The Prep Swimming Program will continue next week. It is a timely opportunity for our Prep students to gain confidence and skills around water in preparation for the summer. Now that the Preps are increasingly confident in their learning, play and communication it is the perfect time to take on the new learning challenge of swimming.

Year 5 Production

‘High School Musical Junior’ is this year’s Year 5 Production. Performances will take place at Cato Hall, Wesley College on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th of September.

NAPLAN

The Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN results will be released to all schools on Monday so that the data can be analysed by teachers and school leadership. I look forward to sending our summary of this analysis home with the individual student results on Wednesday.

Sporting Successes

Congratulations to our many sporting teams who have achieved successes recently:

  • Netball Girls Team will compete in the Victorian State Finals on the 13th of September.
  • T-Ball Girls Team will compete in the Victorian State Finals on the 11th of September.
  • Mount View Athletics Team have won the District Athletics held at Knox earlier this week. Many of our students will now go onto to further represent our district.

Building Works - Pick My Project

The installation of three new hard courts for basketball and tennis will begin on Monday, 2nd of September. These works are funded through our successful Pick My Project application which was funded by the Victorian Government. These works will be completed by the 20th of September. The final quotes have been received for the proposed Fitness Stations, the second phase of our Pick My Project initiative. These works will be undertaken during October.

Student-Led Conferences

As a key component of the our new assessment and reporting processes, the Student-Led Conferences will be conducted on Monday, 2nd of September. These will be held in classrooms from 8:00-8:45 am and 3:45-6:00pm. This is an opportunity for students to lead their parents through their learning achievements in 2019. Parents will note that there will be a number of students simultaneously conducting their individual conferences with their parents in the classrooms.

Trust In School Leadership

From time to time Principals and School Leadership need to make tough decisions and parents become concerned. Negative comments in social media by parents often result in maligning the Principal and School Leadership. At these times the default position should be trust in the decisions which are made on balance and taking into account all factors. Due to confidentiality and sensitivity the community cannot always be made aware of all of the facts.

Come and talk to me directly if you have concerns about my decisions.

Exhibition

Please come along and see the most amazing display of the culmination of deep student learning in year 6 at our Exhibition on September 12th.

Furniture

Desks and tables are free for anyone to grab outside the SLC (Year 6 building). Please see Nigel (Grounds officer)

Glenn Butler

Welcome Annie Hayes

My name is Annette Hayes and I am an Assistant Principal at Antonio Park Primary School in Mitcham. You may have seen me around Mt View lately! I’m currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Principal Preparation course through the Department of Education. One of the requirements of this course includes a 20 day internship where I shadow a Principal. Glenn has kindly volunteered to be my mentor Principal and provide me with a learning experience in a large, high achieving school.

I have enjoyed getting to know your amazing school and learning about how such a large school operates. It is lovely to walk around and see how happy and engaged the students are in their learning and I am so impressed with the passion and energy of the staff. Glenn is a high performing Principal with a wealth of knowledge and I am looking forward to learning more about leadership from him when I return to Mt View for the first three weeks of Term 4. See you then!
