Primary Swimming Carnival

Swimming Carnival

On Friday 7th of February the Primary Department held their Swimming Carnival. We had a huge number of children entering events and we were so proud of the way that they had a go, even though they may not have felt overly confident. Once again our parent helpers worked hard throughout the day with numerous jobs. A huge shout out goes to our 2020 House Captains who went above and beyond dressing up, encouraging team spirit and supporting students throughout the day. It was one of the fastest carnivals we have ever run, with the weather ready to ruin our fun at any time. We got through though and had an amazing day. Well done everyone.

Carnivals explained

Throughout the first part of the year there are three major sporting carnivals. Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.

Swimming

These races are run in heats. The fastest 3 in each category go through to the District Carnival which is held in Orange. This means that even though your child may have come first in their heat, they may not make it through to District, as there may have been faster children in other heats. The categories are as follows:

33m Freestyle - (which is translated to 50m for District) 8,9,10,11,12 and 13yrs Boys and Girls

100m Freestyle - Open Boys and Girls

33m Breaststroke (50m at District) - Junior (8,9,10 yrs) 11yrs and Seniors (12yrs and 13yrs) Boys and Girls

33m Backstroke (50m at District) - Junior (8,9,10 yrs) 11yrs and Seniors (12yrs and 13yrs) Boys and Girls

33m Butterfly (50m at District) - Junior (8,9,10 yrs) 11yrs and Seniors (12yrs and 13yrs) Boys and Girls

Medley (4x50m at District) - Junior (8,9,10 yrs) and Seniors (11yrs, 12yrs and 13yrs) Boys and Girls

Cross Country

In Cross Country the top 4 students go through to District and if we are the hosting school for the District Carnival (which we are not this year), we send the top 6.

Athletics

Eliminations for Athletics are run at school during Friday sport. The top 6 students in each field event go through to compete at the Molong Central School Athletics Carnival. The top two students from the carnival go through to District. This is not the case in High Jump as there are certain heights students must be able to clear to go through to District. Field events are divided into Juniors, 11 Yrs and Seniors. Track events are divided into age groups.
