Connections

by Emily Murcott - Head of Positive Education

This week has led to our introduction of online meetings. Wow, what a difference connecting with one another can improve our physical health and psychological well-being.

During my Webex meeting with my class yesterday, I saw student’s faces light up, grins reached from ear to ear and the corner of their eyes crinkled and they chuckled behind the muted microphone. I can see people’s emotions were increasing as they reveled in hearing their friends stories and recognising that others were experiencing their own ups-and-downs. They were recognising that they were not the only ones finding this situation at times challenging.

After discussing subject tasks one student wanted to know what has been the best thing about being in isolation. We heard about families having regular games nights, movie nights, going for walks together, cooking dinners and desserts, baking, building cubbies, jumping on trampolines and much more.

These connections that are being made during this time will be ones that will be treasured by parents and children for the rest of their lives. What memories are you and your family making during this time? Have you noticed the increased connectivity within your family? If you have created new traditions or you have made memorable experiences and you are willing to share these with the Mullum community please email Murcott.emily.e@edumail.vic.gov.au as we would love to hear them.
