Senior Girls Aerobics Team

Our students have participated in a wide variety of Secondary Catholic Sports Association (SCSA) events this term.  Lacrosse and Netball events are still to come in September.

AFL

After weeks of trials and training, SCSA AFL saw the PCW girls run out onto Royal Park on the 25th July, attempting to continue PCW’s strong history in the competition.  In terms of making the grand finals on the day, the girls had no luck; however, their team spirit, skill and general camaraderie was on show for the entire day.  The junior team, coached by Rachael Maddox, won their first game but then came across some very strong competition to narrowly miss out on finals.  The senior team, coached by Mark Klose and Samuel Morales, were extremely unlucky not to pinch a couple of wins on the day and looked as if they were really gathering momentum towards the end of a day.  Thank you to all girls who competed on the day, and a big thank you to all of the coaches for their work before, during and after the event.

Volleyball

Monday, 29th July was the SCSA Division 1 Volleyball at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).  The event was hosted by PCW and a big thank you needs to go to Ella Brinskma, Eloise Shirkey, Madeline Whiteside, Maisie Kelly, Kayla Corrigan, and the three girls from Singapore: Sasha, Belinda and Sheryl.  Their assistance in the lead up to the event, as well as on the day of the event, was amazing.  The event would not have been able run as smoothly without your help so thank you very much!

In terms of performances, the teams from PCW had a great day out in a highly competitive Division 1. Across the day, there were eight separate divisions comprising of 3 junior divisions, 2 intermediate and 2 senior divisions.  Of the eight grand final’s played PCW was involved in 3 of them!  The girls were so unlucky not to pick up a grand final win, however, their heads should be held high as the skill and teamwork on show throughout the day was fabulous!  A big thank you to Gerard Morais, Scott Brennan, Monique Eddy, Belinda and Sheryl for their work as team coaches.

Aerobics

The SCSA Aerobics competition was held on Tuesday, 6th of August, at Star of the Sea College. All 3 teams put in stirring performances that seriously impressed the judges on the day (highlighted by a special mention at the end).  I’d like to congratulate our senior girls on taking out first place on the day! The team of Katya Adkin, Carla Destito, Maddi Emery, and Anouk Thaddeus were ecstatic and a little surprised about taking out the win, as some of the competitors had been training for over 3 months! Well done to all girls on a superb effort and thank you to Emily and Izzy Carty for coaching all 3 teams.

Soccer

Wednesday, 21st August was the SCSA Division 2 Soccer event, held at Darebin International Sports Centre in Thornbury.  On what was a windy and rainy day, all three teams proved that they could match it with the best as they played out a range of hard fought draws with very experienced teams.  Unlucky not to score more goals, the students who were in attendance kept up their encouragement of each other and on another day could have made a serious tilt towards the championship at each level.  Well done to all girls who competed and thanks to Sasha and Gerard Morais for coaching the girls on the day.
