Maths Challenge for Young Australians 2019
During term 2, twenty brave Year 7 and 8 students took on the Maths Challenge for Young Australians. This involved the girls working either collaboratively or on their own, to solve six problems in four weeks. The girls had to use their mathematical knowledge as well as their problem solving skills when tackling the problems. They needed to be creative, flexible, determined, resourceful and resilient. Being prepared to make mistakes and struggle with a problem are vital to learning in maths. Research has shown that making mistakes causes the brain to spark and grow. It was great to see so many girls challenge themselves.
Congratulations to the following students who took part: Kiara Doan, Alessandra Stasey, Lucy English, Chloe Wang, Tyra Williams, Mackenzie Prentice-Evans, Lila Johnstone, Alana Marchese, Zoe Haywood, Gabriella Bakos, Rhian Lewis, Ava Vlahos, Jaeda Thornhill, Charlotte Richards, Matilda Chard, Maria Astaiza-Rincon, Ciena Sampson and Claudia Lui.
Special congratulations to our two top scorers Grace Lewis (Year 7) and Audrey Smart (Year 8).
