House Reports

It’s been an action packed Term to round out 2020.

We would like to take the time to thank all Hopkins students for their amazing efforts not only in Term 4, but throughout the whole year. We would like to extend that to all parents and guardians who have done everything possible to support our students in what has been a very challenging year.

Last week we had our annual Hopkins Celebration Assembly. We acknowledged the great things that have continued to happen throughout the year, even with all the challenges that 2020 has thrown our way. Our Leadership, Citizenship and Spirit winners this year were Zoe Campbell, Ben Gilmour and Maddie Fedley respectively. Our Francis Foundation award winners were Ireland Pickett and Claye Billings, the determination these students have shown throughout the year has been amazing.

Earlier in the week we welcomed our incoming Year 7’s for 2021 to Warrnambool College and indeed Hopkins House. There were many new, nervous and excited students getting a taste of Warrnambool College life, we can’t wait to see them all back in the new year. We also celebrated and acknowledged some fantastic individual efforts this week at the Junior Assembly. Well done to Hopkins award winners Chelsea Redmond and Lucas Peart

Have a fantastic and well deserved break. Thanks again for your contributions in 2020, we look forward to bigger and better things in 2021. Take care.

Last Friday, we were finally able to gather together as a whole house again. It was absolutely delightful to see everyone’s smiling faces in the same room again. It was also an awesome opportunity to recognise and celebrate some Merri students’ achievements for 2020. We believe every single member of the Merri community deserves an enormous congratulations for making it through the chaotic year that was and if we could, we would give each and every one of you an award for your efforts. However, we had three special Merri awards to present:

  • Merri Spirit Award – Thali Crabbmor for her ongoing commitment, enthusiasm & zest to making Merri the best house to be in.
  • Merri Leadership AwardHannah Moon for her ongoing & outstanding involvement in leadership across all areas of the College.
  • Merri Citizenship Award – Liam Meekes for his commitment to being a loyal, enthusiastic, caring & respectful member of the Merri community.

These awards are presented at the end of every year. Each recipient has their name engraved on to a plaque that we display proudly in the Merri Office.

We would also like to recognise the following students for their amazing achievements

Merri Highest Attendance – Hayden Collins – 100%

Merri Highest Merits – Raihan Widyo – 168 merits

Today, Offshore, the annual school magazine, was distributed to all students who ordered one. This is another fantastic way to look back on the year at Warrnambool College and reminisce on all of the fantastic things we have accomplished this year as a school community. When looking at this magazine I would like you to take a moment to recognise the outstanding creative work of three incredible members of the Merri Community.  Students, Aya Maulyda and Scarlett Westhorpe designed the front and back covers, respectively, and our House Support staff member, Janene Larter, worked tirelessly to bring the whole magazine together to get it looking as amazing as it does. We are incredibly proud of you all.

From the team in Merri we would like to wish you all a fun, happy and safe holiday period. We look forward to seeing you in the new year, refreshed and eager to tackle whatever 2021 has in store for us.
