Ulysses Community Report

Welcome from the Ulysses Team

The teachers in Ulysses would like to welcome all families to a new year of learning and fun in 2021. So far the students are off the a great start and we would like to thank all of them for their efforts! Thanks to parents and guardians for engaging in your students learning and working alongside us to support them.

Inquiry/ SEL

In Term one 2021, Ulysses students will be exploring the links between their emotions and their behaviours. The central idea is ‘Am I the only person responsible for my choices?' They will be further exploring and discussing behaviours that demonstrate sensitivity to individual, social and cultural differences. Teachers will present students with a range of scenarios and discuss how they might react in that situation and explain why.

Numeracy

In Ulysses, the community has been working on Place Value. Students have been working on the number of the day.

Students have been using think boards to show the number of the day in different ways. This includes if the number is odd or even, telling a number story, using a picture to represent, writing down number sentences, filling in tens frames and determining what is one less and one more. Students are also using Unifix blocks to make the number of the day.

The example shows when our number of the day was 25. We used a think board to show 25 in different ways.

Literacy

In this lesson, students are not judging what is inside the book, but what is on the cover itself. They asked themselves what does the cover include? Why? What is left off? Why do you think that is? After examining many book covers, students recreate a cover for their Good Fit Book; then, they share their creations with their classmates and explain the changes they made or what they chose to keep.
