From the Principal

International Day is this Friday 4th December.

Welcome to IPS

Today we celebrate International Day of People with disability.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. Please find time to listen to the minister’s powerful message of inclusion and advocacy.

IPS Street Libraries

The Street Libraries have proved immensely popular. So popular, in fact, that more books have left the libraries than have been put in them. Please return the books after they have been read OR pop one in from home to replace the stocks. It doesn't matter if they are a little pre-loved - that just means they are highly recommended. :-)

There are still two more to be built. If any families would like a holiday project please call the office to arrange a pick up of a kit.

School Banking Program will not be offered in 2021

Victorian Minister for Education James Merlino announced the ban on Sunday, saying the Victorian school curriculum included financial literacy.

"Victorian students deserve high-quality financial literacy, free from commercial interests – that’s why we’re banning financial institutions from delivering school banking programs," he said.

"The Victorian curriculum sets our expectations for financial literacy and that must be our focus. It is time to draw a line under this issue."

"A big thank you to all the parents and students who participated in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking Progam.  We hope students who took part, come away with many life skills that will remain with them in the years to come.  A special thank you to the banking volunteers who helped, as without them, IPS School Banking would never have occurred.    Carmel - CBA Banking Co-ordinator

I would like to echo Carmel's words and thank all of the parents who over the years have supported the school banking program. A lot of work by a small team of parents  every Tuesday morning coordinated by Carmel Willemsen kept this program going over many years. While I understand the reasoning behind the ban I would like to acknowledge the commitment and effort our parents made to a program that taught good saving practice to our future savers.

Class structure and teachers for 2021

The students find out their classroom and teacher for 2021 on Thursday the 17th  December and will spend some time in their new classroom with their teachers and new classmates. This is a very exciting day for the students and usually, nearly all are more than happy with their placement. We ask that parents please respect the decisions made by the school with regard to placement of students and do not ask for changes to be made after the students are informed. We know that parents know their children better than the teachers in an all-round sense. However, teachers know the students better than the parents in the school setting.

On behalf of the IPS community I farewell and thank  Stacey Cook, Christine Hemsley, Trent Ryan, Sandra Kannemeyer, Lauren Ward and Yvette Gindidis and wish them all the best for 2021. They have all had a positive impact on Ivanhoe Primary School and have improved outcomes for students.

2021 Swimming Program

School Council will subsidise the swimming program in 2021 prior to reviewing the program and the subsidy. Please read the page from our IPS School Council in this edition of Inside Ivanhoe.

Changes to Semester 2 Student Reports

The Department of Education and Training has adjusted the expectations around student reporting for Semester 2 in recognition of the disruption caused by COVID-19. Ivanhoe Primary School will therefore provide a simplified written report for the parent/carer of each student enrolled at the school for Semester 2, 2020 focusing on what progress has been made and what has been achieved by each child.

Please read the page detailing these changes in this edition of Inside Ivanhoe.

Safe school arrival and departure

Schools must implement actions to reduce the congregation of adults around the school and reduce congestion. Schools can do this through strategies such as the use of multiple entry/exit points, creating spaces for egress in different areas of the school and appropriate signage to communicate expected behaviours.

NOTE:  STUDENTS WILL ENTER AND EXIT SCHOOL FROM THE GATES THEY ARE CURRENTLY REQUIRED TO USE. (THESE WILL CONTINUE TO BE STAFFED)

Visitors to schools and school tours

  • Adults entering school premises must wear a mask.
  • Adults can enter the school grounds for a maximum of 10 minutes to collect or drop off a child.
  • Stays of longer than 15 minutes require an appointment.
  • Stays of longer than 15 minutes require sign in  and contact details recorded for COVID tracing purposes.

Big IPS Community (Socially Distanced) Hug

What a year we have had! 2020 will definitely go down in the history books.

Covid-19 has impacted families across the world, across Australia, and in our own community at IPS.

At this festive time of year, we would like to give some extra warm, fuzzy hugs to those in our community who need it. We considered supporting an outside group, but in this Covid year we are bringing it to our own. With the upheaval some have experienced, so unexpectedly, we want to reach out and assist those impacted.

Donations can be brought in by students, and left in the boxes outside the staffroom. (Gift cards to be left with office staff) Download the flyers below.

PICKING UP YOUR BOOKLIST

School Booklist Pick Up Day will be at the Ivanhoe Primary School Hall

Saturday January 23rd 2021 - 9am - 4pm

Sunday January 24th 2021 - 9am - 2pm

CHANGES TO PICK UP DAY DUE TO COVID 19

We are requesting that for Pick-Up Days, children do not attend. This will reduce the chance of unnecessary mixing of potentially hundreds of children and parents at a time when we will still be required to socially distance and minimise contact. Running Pick-Up Days on the weekend should allow families to send 1 parent / representative only to pick up.

We thank you for your understanding & co-operation.

Finally

Our new crossing supervisor is concerned that congestion around the crossing at pick up is an issue. As she is unable to use a whistle at the moment she is concerned that people are missing the visual cues - (green and red walking figure) and are putting themselves at risk when crossing the road. I have seen cars speed up as they approach the crossing in order to get through without being stopped. That means that we have to take responsibility for their poor practice. Please be careful and stay safe. Everyone is doing sucha great job of staying safe. Let's stay that way.

.

Stay safe, look after each other and thank you for supporting our great school.
