Technology and STEM

@ St Louis

Welcome to the technology and STEM area of our school newsletter. Here you will find key information relating to technology at St Louis, including updates about our school portals (currently Montes), how we use technology at St Louis, as well as celebrations of our students learning using technology.

As part of the phasing out of Montes in Term 1, we are now placing all year level and class information and updates on the Cluster Pages.

These can be found at the following link

Please note that Schoolbox has been updating student information, sop if you've noticed your child in a previous class, this will be changed soon.

We have today sent out our Acceptable Use policy forms on Operoo. They are for P-3, Year 4, and Years 5-6.

Please note there is a Parent Agreement and also a Student Agreement within the same form.

You'll also see a form for Media/Photo/Video consent. This relates to how and where we capture images of your child(ren) and what they are used for. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Thomson Wood.

Please complete these forms by Friday 12 February.

We're excited to announce the introduction of a Chromebook 1:1 programme at St Louis which will start with our current year 4 students this year.

Next week marks the start of our journey together with the students receiving their devices as well as accessories and personal bag. Year 4 parents will be invited to an information evening which will happen via Zoom in the next two weeks. This link will be shared closer to the event and if you can't make it, we will record the session and pop it up on our school Youtube.

We can't wait to get into this learning space with our families and year 4 students.

Another new and exciting introduction into our 5 and 6 year levels from week 3 is STEM learning.

STEM is a learning discipline focused upon skillsets, toolsets, mindsets, knowledge and understanding in the areas of Science, Technologies, Engineering, and Maths.

The intention of this is to expose students to real-world problems and help them to think creatively and critically in order to present possible solutions whilst also promoting and developing important 21st Century learning skills.

If you work in any field associated with each of these disciplines and would like to explore the possibility of coming in to work alongside the students and teachers in this space at some point in 2021, please feel free to get in touch with Thomson Wood on twood@stlouisaspendale.com to chat further!
