Classroom Rules in 3GM

One of the most important activities that we do at the start of each year is part of our whole school Start Up program.  As a grade, students and teachers decide on agreed classroom rules that focus on three rights:

  • We all have the right to learn
  • We all have the right to feel safe
  • We all have the right to be treated with respect

In 3GM, students worked in small groups to brainstorm four rules that they believed were important for a safe, respectful learning environment. We then came together as a grade, shared our rules and came up with an agreed list.

Students were then given the task of showing the rule in action. This was the perfect opportunity for the students to use their new iPads. They used the camera function and the App PicCollage.

We then used these pictures to create a visual display of our rules to remind us of what is expected in the classroom. The rules were sorted under each of the rights.

The final task was to sign our names to promise to demonstrate and abide by the rules to ensure a happy, safe and fun classroom environment!
