Junior School Council

JSC 2021- UPDATE ON THE ELECTION PROCESS

The JSC election process started last week. Sadly with the latest lockdown, many classes didn't get to hear their candidate election speeches or elect their Junior School Council Representatives.

Therefore, the election process continues and will be concluded as soon as possible.

Once the election process is finalised, the results will be shared by classroom teachers and JSC reps will be presented with their badges at our next assembly, planned for Thursday 4th March.

Prior to this assembly, JSC Reps are asked to attend their first meeting at lunchtime on Monday 1st March in Room 4 (Mrs Tainsh's classroom).

As a reminder, the following information outlines the election process and what the role involves -

  • Students from Foundation to Grade 6 will be members of the JSC. Each class will have 4 representatives. Two of the elected JSC Reps will be involved in Terms 1 and 2; then the other 2 JSC Reps will be involved in Terms 3 and 4.
  • The election process involves students nominating themselves to be a classroom candidate and then, they will need to prepare a short speech as to why they should be considered to be one of the 4 JSC Representatives. After the speeches have all been held, each student will vote, making their own decisions, via a secret ballot.
  • Each classroom teacher will facilitate the process and will inform the students about what the JSC Rep will be involved in, the number of meetings they will need to attend at lunchtimes and reinforce that they need to demonstrate behaviour that is consistent and aligned with the schools core values of Care, Learn and Share.
  • Examples of events that the JSC Reps will be involved in are communicating and promoting whole school social service days as well as helping coordinate whole school key education events like Harmony Day and NAIDOC Week. JSC Reps will also be good citizens in the school, demonstrating exemplary behaviour. They are role models for playing respectfully in the yard, they show empathy for others, they share and they are kind.

Well done to everyone who has and is participating in the election process. We have heard from teachers who did manage to run class elections before the lockdown that the speeches have been amazing and voting has been close.

We look forward to meeting the successful JSC Representatives at the first meeting on Monday 1st March.
