Middle School News

The final days of the 2020 school year are dissolving into the crucible of the holiday season, shrouding the Middle School office with a sense of bittersweet nostalgia. Our students – and even members of our coordination team – are preparing for great changes to their Ringwood routines with transition to VCE, subject changes and alternative pathways.

Firstly, the team must say a ‘sort of farewell’ to our Year 10 cohort as they enter the final phase of their Ringwood journey as VCE and VCAL students. Yes, their new Senior School office sits just 10 metres from Middle School, but no longer will they knock on our door for their uniform passes, chocolate prizes, and forgotten locker combinations. Congratulations, Year 10s, on your determination and resilience this year; we believe that your individual and collective experiences in remote learning will only benefit your learning moving forward. We also wish the best of luck to those exiting for other education or workplace opportunities – we know you will shine in your new spaces.

Ms Watson has been working tirelessly to process a large number of subject change requests for those entering Year 9 and Year 10 in 2021; we very much appreciate that students take time to earnestly reflect on their interests and capabilities and make changes to best suit their future, and we aim to cater to these desires wherever possible. It certainly is an exciting time, made perhaps more exciting by the prospect of a fresh start and a return to normality.

The school should be growing quieter as the seniors slip into their summer break, but instead we are alive with the sound of music as our current and future Middle School students prepare for their High School Musical auditions this week. We cannot wait to see the array of talent on show and support Mr. McNamara in planning for the 2021 production.

Finally, another ‘sort of farewell’ to one of our own, Mr Vlahos, as he joins the Junior School Team in the role of Frazer Coordinator next year – we will miss his professionalism, compassion, and sense of humour in the office (but will not miss our chocolates going missing when he has the place to himself…).

On the other hand, it is with great excitement that we welcome Ms Woollard to the team as our new Jackman House Coordinator for 2021!
