Maylene Sutherland: Published Author

Staughton College now has a published author in our midst.  Maylene Sutherland, who is one of our VCE Business Management and VCE Legal Studies teachers, had her book launched on Friday, the 8th of March, which was International Women’s day.

The book, Intrepid Women: 12 Tales of Courage, is an anthology with 12 contributing authors.  There are stories on the struggle to overcome depression, anxiety, cultural challenges, courageous communication, and mastering personal illness.

Maylene Sutherland's chapter, "Uncommon Courage” is a personal account on her journey to leave her abusive marriage.  Maylene talks about how finding yourself in an abusive relationship can happen to anybody and about how difficult it is to extricate yourself from this type of relationship.  It is also a story of hope and how, even in a seemingly impossible situation, the courage you need to make a better future for yourself will find you.

Maylene believes strongly in living positively and striving to be the best version of herself that she can be. She is interested in the potential each person has and how that can be unlocked. She believes that behind every woman navigating this complex world we live in, is a community of women who, as a collective have a wealth of knowledge, personal stories, and support that can be harnessed to help each other.
