Harmony Day and
Cultural Diversity Week 2019
Harmony Day falls on March 21st, and every year, Staughton College celebrates it's cultural diversity for a whole week.
On Monday, we had a henna tattoo booth thanks to Ms. Angela Watters, Ms. Kelly Rozynski, and student helper Roda Thangaw.
On Tuesday, thanks to Year Level Coordinator Ms. Sage Balassa, the year 8 students were able to watch a cultural show with lots of singing, dancing, and a cultural fashion parade. We want to thank Mr. Norman Capapas, Ms. Haley Clancy, Ms. Jacinta Venuto, Ms. Ashlin Kishore, Ms. Darryl Thompson, and Ms. Angela Watters even joined in the fun and came in dressed in traditional outfits.
On Wednesday, we had Ms. Mayuree Collins, Ms. Alyn Beeg, Ms. Heradi Zainabo, and Ms. Darryl Thompson come in and help the EAL Class cook authentic traditional food. Staff and students alike were able to enjoy Thai pad thai, Sudanese kebab, Filipino pork humba and chop suey, Samoan coco rice, Italian carbonara, French ratatouille, African corn bread, and jasmine white rice for only $5.
On Thursday, Ms. Erin Favero and Ms. Emma Smyth played short French films in M7, while DJ Will Cachia helped students Roda Thangaw, Adoralynn Papalii Seu, and Eleni Tulaga air World Music during lunch time radio.
It was an excellent week, and all the students and performers involved had a lot of fun. One of the favorite things I overheard during Tastes of the World was a student saying, "it smells just like home".

This year’s Cultural Diversity Week was the best one yet. The cultural performances and the cultural fashion parade was colourful, vibrant and was really fun! Everyone who participated did such an excellent job and all the practice paid off because all three shows ran perfectly.
‘Tastes of the World’ is always such a jam packed, fun day cooking in the kitchen with the EAL withdrawal class, and this year we had some parents and staff members and senior students cooking traditional dishes from around the world. It always makes me so proud to see our students celebrating their own cultures.
Henna, French Film and World Music were also held at lunch time during the week. It always makes me so proud to see our students celebrating their own cultures and learning about new ones.
Thanks to all the students, staff and parents who helped celebrate all of our amazing diverse cultures we have here at Staughton College.
