Numeracy Week Reflection

During Numeracy Week, there were multiple lunchtime events students of all year levels could attend. I participated in some of them, including the tower building activity and “The Amazing Race”. The tower building activity involved competing against others to make the tallest structure using only marshmallows and raw spaghetti. I was in a group with other year 12's and we won, taking out Ms. McClory and Ms. Bardan!

On Wednesday, the Amazing Race started off by meeting at one of the classrooms. We were then given numeracy related problems to receive stamps around the school, and the final destination was in The Trade Centre and again the year 12's were the winners!

On Thursday, over 90 party pies were traded with students who were able to recite at least 10 decimal places of pi. One student had to be stopped at 50 decimal places because our judges didn’t have digits beyond that…and he wanted to keep going!

It was very competitive as well as really encouraging to see students from varying ages participate in these activities and have an enjoyable time.

Congratulations to Ryan Ugursay of 7G for the best estimate of the number of jellybeans in the jar.
