Student Leadership Camp - School Pride

This week I had the pleasure of attending the Student Leadership Camp at King Lake. The leadership camp was a great opportunity for our leaders to engage with each other and develop relationships across the year levels. It also highlighted the fantastic culture of inclusiveness, pride and respect our students have for each other and their school.

Every parent wants to find a school where their child receives the very best education, a school where their child thrives, a school where their child is valued, and a school that their child is proud to attend.

Cheltenham Secondary College is an exceptional school, with  exceptional students, and an exceptional culture that supports the growth of the individual students. At Cheltenham, we empower our students to learn and achieve their personal best. Our teachers’ are dedicated, providing every student with the guidance, support and the right amount of challenge to succeed.

Our community has created this safe environment where students can be themselves and enjoy their school experience. Because, at Cheltenham every student is different, every student has different goals, and every student's learning journey is important and different. At Cheltenham, every students pathway is reflected in their personal choices, their experience is a combination of the educational rigor they experience in the classroom, the skills they obtain in their elective studies, the personal growth from their involvement in the co-curricular programs and the relationships they develop along the way.

At Cheltenham we pride ourselves on providing the opportunities for all students to succeed, no matter what career pathway they choose.

School Council Elections

On Monday 28th February I forwarded a letter (via Compass) to inform you of the upcoming School Council Election Process for 2018. The following vacancies exist in the Parent category:

Two, two-year terms of office for 2018 – 2020

I would like to encourage any interested parent to nominate themselves, or have another parent of the school nominate them, for membership of the School Council. If we receive more nominations than vacancies a ballot will be held. I ask all people nominated to provide a brief synopsis (no more than 200 words) of themselves along with a photo, which includes information about their association with the school, as well as the  skills and knowledge they have which would contribute to the working of School Council. This synopsis will be used to accompany Ballot papers should an election be necessary, or for the information of other council members prior to the first meeting of School Council if there is no election.

Should you have any further queries please contact me directly.

Mr Karl Russell

Acting Principal

SCHOOL COUNCIL

On behalf of School Council, a warm welcome to all of our new families at Cheltenham Secondary College in 2018.  I enjoyed meeting many Year 7 parents at our musical information night.

It is an exciting time to be part of Cheltenham Secondary with our building works well underway.  As a former student myself it was with twinges of sadness and relief I watched the old toilets at the end of B wing be demolished!

The first stage of our building works should be completed by Term 2 with the next stage commencing soon after.

So where to from here?  As I am sure you will appreciate, we are keen to ensure our new facilities are fitted out with the best quality furniture and resources we can.  The money from the Government is simply for the building works and it is now up to the school to fitout these buildings to the best of our ability.

So how can you help?

  • As you will have seen on your fee sheet, it is possible to make a tax deductible donation to the school’s building fund (BMF).  Monies to this fund are used solely to maintain and enhance the buildings at Cheltenham Secondary.   As a government school, we appreciate any and all donations to this vital fund and I would encourage you, where possible to support this.
  • Become involved with Cheltenham’s PFA group.  The Parents and Friends Association was re established last year to assist with fund raising.  To date it has assisted with the student wellbeing program, provided funds for the music recording studio and performing arts curtain.  This year, we are looking to provide even more resources to our vital student wellbeing program which supports students and families at our school.  This year we are looking to run another trivia night and a movie night as fundraisers.  Should you be interested in this, please email the PFA on pfa@cheltsec.vic.edu.au.

Again, welcome to our new families and the very best wishes of Council to our students as they embark on their studies in 2018.  We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our PFA events that will be advertised in due course.

Thanks

Sharon Tapner

School Council President
