Careers Fasttrack for Year 9 Students 2016

Careers Fasttrack Pty Ltd is a well-established, reputable, Careers Counselling business that runs private consultancy services from their offices in St Kilda Road. They counsel students and adults in the areas of career exploration and advice.

St Albans Secondary College values the importance of students making informed decisions about their futures and our Year 9 students have been privileged enough to be put through their entire advisory program to help them through this process.

The Careers Fasttrack program is run over three stages. The first stage is an interactive presentation followed by five psychometric quizzes: personality, values, skills, interests and preferred subject areas. Our students really embrace this session – it is great fun and all about them! The quizzes are completed online and once completed we are able to produce a 20 - 25 page folio that leads into the second stage.

In Stage 2, the students work on their folios (created in stage 1). They read about their personality profile, strengths, weaknesses, values and preferred subject areas and then explore jobs that are aligned to all of their preferences. They really enjoy this stage as well as they start to explore many jobs they’ve never even heard of and can start to plan goals like “what will I do when I leave school – Work/Apprenticeship/Traineeship/TAFE or Uni? “How will I get there?” “What do I need to study to get there (when I leave school)?” “What subjects do I need to take at school in VCE/VCAL that will allow me to follow that pathway?” and finally they complete a Self-Evaluation – “How well am I going with my current subjects?” “What can I improve on?” Stage 2 will be complete by the end of Term 2.

In Stage 3, the final stage of the program, every student has an individual 30 minute interview with a Careers Fasttrack employee. They discuss the folio work and consolidate all of this into a plan to ensure the student is on the right ‘track’ to achieve their goals.

This year, Stage 3 interviews are being run during the first two weeks of Term 3. Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend these appointments. Students will all have their appointment times by 20th June.

Then during July, Year 9 students will revisit their folios to focus on key areas that will help them make the correct subject choices for Year 10 and beyond. This is done during class time.
