STATE LIBRARY

Research Launchpad Excursion

Year 7 classes have started attending the State Library of Victoria “Research Lauchpad”  Program. The learned the history of the Library and visited the red rotunda and the 103 year old reading room complete with original furniture and beautiful dome. The students were introduced to the collections and took photos of items with which to produce a film. They discussed what research was and how it works for us sharing discoveries and telling stories. They learned of John Batman and Ned Kelly and were taught how to Research and read and respond to questions. They generated their own research questions and looked at Primary and secondary Sources. They researched the Library’s Catalogue. After a nice lunch break and enjoying the sunshine they created a film on “Animoto.”  It was a brilliant excursion.

“On the 30th May, 7I and 7J went to the State Library of Victoria. We toured and saw many fun and fascinating educational artefacts. This is a good place to research. We made a film using a primary source from the Library which we had learned about. It was a fun and interesting trip. “

“The state Library excursion was a great opportunity for us to study many historical artefacts and treasures. We toured the Library and were shocked to see how many primary sources the library held. The State Library is the perfect place to study in and the staff were friendly and helpful“
