From the Deputy's Desk

While it feels like 2020 is just starting with students back on campus, it is coming to a close and preparations are underway for 2021. At the end of this year we will be farewelling a number of long-serving staff. Mrs Lara-Curtis Morris will be taking up a position to develop the VCAL program at another Christian school, Mrs Angie Mathews is pursuing further study, Mr Alex Hopkins is retiring to get some well earned rest, and Mrs Karen Hooper is taking leave to allow more time for her role as the Christian Education National State Executive Officer for Victoria. Mr Jonathan Lake will also complete his time with us. We thank each for their faithful service and contributions to the College over many years.

I am also pleased to announce that Mrs Lara Adi (formerly Cartledge) will be returning to the College in 2021. We will also welcome Miss Katie McCann, our new Secondary English Teacher, and Mrs Justine Beach, who will teach Performing Arts and Bible. Both have been on placement in the College this year and will join the teaching staff as graduates next year. We are also pleased to welcome Mrs Fiona Ryan to the Secondary School as a core Junior Secondary Teacher.

In the Primary School, there will also be some changes. The learning teams will be as follows:

P-2 Learning Team: Donna Martin (Coordinator), Jennie Taylor, Carolyn Johnson, Nicole Bolden, Jo Moore, Chris Elkington, Anna Lam, and Jennie Champion.

3-4 Learning Team: Maree Coates (Coordinator), Tammie Chester, Nigel Kuipers, Sari Newton, and Caroline DeHaan.

5-6 Learning Team: Sara Wright (Coordinator), Monique Manning, Louise Hogarty, Jordan Partridge, Russ Svigos, and Zacc Klan.

Bicycle access to South Campus

With the new bike shelter complete, students will now have a different route to access it. Students should enter the College via the pathway gate that comes from the pedestrian crossing. They may then cycle along the gravel access track behind the Primary School and D Block to the gate near J Block (behind the canteen). Students should then dismount and walk their bikes to the shelter. The shelter is out of bounds during school time, and should only be accessed if arriving late or departing early. If the bike is brought in the car (such as for bike-ed), then it must be walked across the basketball court to the shelter.

Calendar 2021 and Changes to Parent Conferences

Please find below the proposed annual planner for 2021. In response to feedback from the community on the Parent-Teacher Conferences, in each semester the first day of conferences (a Wednesday) will be after school, face-to-face for those who still prefer this mode. The second day (a Thursday) will be online, remote conferences as we did this year, and will be a whole day student free. We hope these adjustments will serve the community well next year.

Remote Learning and Changes to Semester 2 Reports

The effect of remote learning has meant that specialist subjects in Primary and elective subjects in Secondary have had a significant impact this semester and will not appear on reports. The exemption granted from the Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority allows us to make this provision for 2020 reports. Teachers will continue to adjust student outcomes in subsequent reports. We thank you for your understanding in these challenging times.

Library Borrowing & Returns

Please note that this is the final week of the term for borrowing before we will be recalling all books for stock-take.

All books are due for return by the end of next week (Friday 27 November) and we ask that families take time to look carefully for any outstanding loans, including ones that have been overlooked from earlier sessions of remote learning.

Thank you to everyone who has keenly reserved books for borrowing over these last few terms. Thank you also for your continuing patience with the process as the library undergoes renovations. We look forward to welcoming everyone into our new look space in 2021!
