Duke of Edinburgh Award

Damian McCarthy

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a leading structured (non-formal education) youth development program, empowering all young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world, regardless of their location or circumstance.

To achieve an Award, each young person must learn a skill, improve their physical well-being, volunteer in their community and experience a team adventure in a new environment.

Jemma White has previously completed both the Bronze and Silver Awards while at Monivae, and we are presenting to her today the highest award of Gold. This involved a minimum of 12 months consistent effort, and Jemma completed all five components to achieve this goal:

For Recreation, Jemma participated in Hockey

For Skills, Jemma improved her piano playing

For Volunteering, Jemma involved herself in the upkeep of a public school grounds

For Adventurous, Journey Jemma was Adjutant in the Cadet camps

And for the Residential Project, Jemma participated in the Kiribati Program on the island of Abemama.

We congratulate and commend Jemma on this momentous achievement.
