Narrabri Shire Library Visit

Last Thursday, Jenny from the Narrabri Shire Library visited our Kindergarten and Stage One classes for story time and some fun book week activities.

#whatareyoulearning

In Literacy, Stage One have been writing recounts about the school holidays and the weekend. It has been exciting to hear about all the students' activities, giving them the opportunity to expand vocabulary and include it in their writing.

Meanwhile, we have been sharing, sharing and more sharing in Maths! The students have been learning how to divide a variety of concrete materials by sharing them into equal groups. They are thoroughly enjoying exploring division and are relishing the chance to develop their mathematical knowledge and understanding.

For the past few weeks, Stage 2 have been learning about the effects of deforestation and palm oil plantations on native animals in Borneo and Indonesia.

We have discovered that orangutans could be extinct in the wild in the next 10 years due to habitat loss and that palm oil plantations are one of the main reasons for deforestation and habitat destruction. We have also been investigating which products contain palm oil and the list of names companies use to disguise the product. Up to 50% of the supermarkets products contain palm oil.

The students have been surprised and intrigued by the information learnt this term and we look forward to learning about possible sustainable ways to grow palm oil trees!
