Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community

COVID 19 Alert

As most families will be aware, there has been a Covid 19 outbreak at a neighbouring school, with a student in Year Five who had ties to an earlier outbreak, testing positive to the virus. It appears that this student attended school for the two days prior to testing positive when they should have still been at home in quarantine. As has been the case so far with all our families, we continue to ask that if you child is exhibiting any of the Covid symptoms you please keep them home, and if the symptoms persist you have your child tested. Parents and Guardians have been fantastic with their adherence to these protocols and I know of at least six students who have been tested before they came back to school. Even though we are seeing positive cases fall we still need to be vigilant with our protocols and procedures.

Year Five Yarning Conference

As presented on our school Facebook page on Tuesday, our Year Five students participated in the Darebin Council initiated Yarning Conference, with seventeen other local schools. I would like to thank our Year Five/Six teacher Marty for giving our students the opportunity to learn about our municipalities Indigenous heritage and to celebrate this rich history which we should all be so aware of. Congratulations to Nicola and Anni for winning the poetry competition and receiving a striking "Always was, Always will be" tshirt

Scared Heart School Board

Facebook Post – Heidi Mantis

The School Board is a very important group of parents who come together with Father Jan as Parish Priest, Jenny as Deputy Principal and myself, to discuss relevant issues that effect our school.  In my nearly three years as principal, I have relied on the Board for feedback and advice before making some very important. The School Board meets twice a term and meetings are usually of 90 minutes duration. I would like to present a reflection from Heidi Mantis, who is leaving the School Board at the end of the year with her daughter Jasmine starting secondary school. We are looking to replace two current Board members for 2021.

It’s been one week since the kids have been physically able to get back to school! It’s been wonderful to see my girl being back with her teachers, friends and fellow students for her last year at school. And what a strange one it has been! Hopefully in these last weeks of her Primary School life she will be able to experience some of those milestone moments before she ventures onto High School! Part of me will miss her being at this school but I am also very excited for this new chapter to start.

As she leaves Primary School, I will also be leaving this wonderful Sacred Heart community. Having spent the last few years as a Board Member, I can honestly say it’s been a privilege to watch the school grow and evolve and know in some small way I contributed to that. It’s been great to work with Mark Tierney and the fellow Board members over the years and thank them all for this fabulous experience! As we approach the end of the year, I will sadly be saying goodbye and passing the baton to the others in the team. We are always looking for new Board members and if you are new to the school or have been thinking about joining the Board but have just been unsure, don’t hesitate! Now is the perfect time to become involved as we call for nominations at next month’s AGM. Please reach out to myself or Mark via PM to become involved!

Bunnings Gift

Thank you to Bunning's Northland who gifted our school a gardening pack to celebrate our students returning to school.

Grand  Final

Good luck if you support either of the two teams playing off in Saturday's Grand Final. There has been some heated debate in the staffroom this week between, Marie and Marty who support Richmond and Ann who supports Geelong. Both groups of supporters are feeling very confident about their teams chances.

A message from the Darebin Council for our students who use the school crossing

Now that all primary school students have returned to school, Darebin’s crossing supervisors are back at work and excited to see parents and your kids again after such a long break. Please say hi to them when you get a chance.

Council staff have begun to enforce parking restrictions to keep everyone safe on their way to and from school, in line with advice from the Government. We’re policing restrictions around schools from now on, so please obey the signs, use the Kiss and Go areas, and keep everyone safe.
