Alumnae Volunteers
We are very proud of all the volunteer work our many alumnae are engaged in especially at this time. Please email Melinda Adams if you would like to bring awareness to a charity you are involved with.
This month we reached out to Flavia Gobbo (1977) to share the work of the charity she is involved with SecondBite

I have been on the Board of SecondBite for almost 10 years and am very proud of my association with this amazing organization. We have grown from a small local food rescue organisation to a national operation which in the past year has distributed rescued food equivalent to over 50 million meals!
Our vision is Ending Waste and Ending Hunger – both very important problems in our current challenging environment. One of my fellow Board members is Matt Preston and he is an enthusiastic advocate for what we do and is always posting lots of recipes and ideas for ending waste at home as well as working with our major partner Coles to address waste in the supply chain.
We rescue perfectly good food that would otherwise end up in landfill and distribute it to people in need via our own distribution networks or through our wonderful community partners.
SecondBite continues to ramp up operations across Australia to meet the growing number of Australians impacted by the COVID-19 emergency.
Increased collaboration across the sector, private enterprise and Government has assisted SecondBite endeavours to meet the ongoing challenges and increase in demand. We are moving bulk produce to regional remote areas in collaboration with corporate transport and storage providers. Collectively this has enabled SecondBite to source large volumes of additional food, employ additional staff and assist smaller agencies and move food to all corners of the nation.
An indication of the impact of COVID-19 on food relief is that food collected by SecondBite for provision to those in need in the six months from January to June 2020 (14,420,741kgs) is 15.7% up on the six months from July to December 2019 (12,468,057kgs). And in the period of July to November 2020 we have provided 10,887,963 kilograms of food to those in need.
A significant challenge will be to provide for the those still left unemployed post COVID-19 and following reductions in government support such as Job Keeper and Job Seeker. We are already planning for these scenarios and would really value your financial support in continuing our work.
