During the Mass, Alumnae Association Co-President Kerry Bergin, acknowledged the challenges of the present moment and answered with a message of hope.

Kerry’s words of ‘Cor Unum is who we are and Cor Unum is how we do it' remind us to live, grow and share with others an open and generous heart.

At the Mass, there was a candle lit for each of the deceased RSCJ, alumnae and friends of Sacré Cœur.

We received thoughtful feedback from alumnae about how important the Mass was to them, especially during this challenging year including one from Anne Sutherland:

Dear Kerry and Everyone,

Thank you for the beautiful Mass of Remembrance this morning.

It was comforting and inspiring. At once, soothing to be back in the familiar space of the Chapel, and poignant to see it empty and to feel the distance of being there virtually rather than fully.

Kerry, your welcome was masterful - it touched all the notes I needed to hear. You acknowledged the challenges of the present moment and answered each with a message of hope. You located us clearly in the reality of the current pandemic; and drew our attention to the bond and the values that bring us together for this annual ritual regardless of the obstacles. You placed the loneliness, represented by the empty pews, next to the strength and hope that we draw from our faith and our care for each other. Your closing words 'Cor Unum is who we are and Cor Unum is how we do it' will stay with me.

Kerry's opening seemed perfectly in theme with Fr Simon's homily reminding us of the constancy of divine love through life & death.

Thank you also to Adelina, Mark, Melinda, Marianne and Brandon for the roles you played in making it possible to come together in this way.

Marisa and Nicola, lovely to see you and hear your voices too.

The recording of this mass will be an important record for the archives.

Thank you all,

Anne
