Year 3/4–Celebrating Learning

3/4 Mainstream

Last week, we celebrated NAIDOC Week. A week we all look forward to for learning, reflection, celebration, and fun! All of our classes went on a local walk to the ‘Northcote Koorie Mural’ on St George’s Road. The mural is a familiar sight, but it was a moving experience to walk past slowly and take in all the different dynamics of Aboriginal history and culture. We discussed this year’s NAIDOC theme -

Always Was, Always Will Be!

Each class also engaged in a school-wide focus on writing our own Acknowledgements of Country. We discussed the differences between Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country, and why it is important to recognise and acknowledge the land upon which we live, learn, and play.

“I really liked making my own Acknowledgment of Country because we got to write our own meaningful Acknowledgement and also got to do some painting in the classroom.”     - Kingston 3/4B

“Going on the walk was a highlight. We got to see the real history of Aboriginal Australia. It was important to think about everything that’s happened to Aboriginal people because of White people.” - Billie 3/4B

4S Steiner

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebration 4S students created their own Acknowledgement of Country.
