Working With Children Checks

We love our volunteers - there are many educational experiences that we could not complete without you! All volunteers working in government primary schools must have a current and valid Working with Children Check, a copy of which must be kept at the office.

If you have renewed your WWCC recently and haven’t provided us with an updated copy, we ask that you please either send through a photo to brunswick.nw.ps@education.vic.gov.au  or allow us to take a photocopy at the front office.

Senior Classrooms

It has been a long time coming - the final stages of our construction works are almost complete! Last term, four of our senior school classes were in temporary locations as the portables on the oval had a revamp. The classes are now back in place and we invite you to take a look the next time you come to school; we now have a new deck that spans between the portables near Yakai Barring, as well as the new footpath and rain gardens heading down to the oval, drinking taps on the oval. Thank you to Gladona for your excellent work and to the senior school classes and teachers for your patience.

Annual Public Meeting

At 6pm this Thursday (May the 4th) we have our Annual Public Meeting where we will share the school’s Annual Report from 2022. We will hold the meeting online - click here for the Google Meets link, anyone in attendance will be able to ask questions. A copy of the report will be in next week’s newsletter and on our school website.

Classroom Helper Training

Today, in the library we held our 2023 classroom helpers course. We were very lucky to have almost 15 willing community members from across the school in attendance, We talked through important ‘classroom helper’ information such as Working With Children Checks, Signing in when on-site, respecting confidentiality and the behaviors and supports that classroom helpers can expect from classroom teachers, and students.

Because most classroom help begins in reading sessions, we also talked through a variety of strategies and language that classroom helpers might use when they are assisting students (or their own children!) with reading.

If there is interest, we would like to run another classroom helpers course later in the year. If you missed today’s session, or this sounds like it is something that would interest you, please email Keir (keir.jasper@education.vic.gov.au) or Cath (catherine.beswick@education.vic.gov.au) and express your interest.

A huge congratulations to today’s graduates of our 2023 Classroom Helpers Course!

Foundation 2024

There are many families in our BNWPS community who have children that will be starting school at BNWPS in 2024. We are now taking enrolments, and would love to chat to families about what their plans are. If this applies to your family,or anyone that you know,  please give our office a call to organise a tour with some of our senior students and a chat with Hannah or Keir.
