Prep

This term, Preps have been focusing on routines in the music room and responsible behaviour in lessons. They are becoming knowledgeable and learning lots of fun songs. Enjoy listening to Prep A and B sing😊

They are learning about the Elements of Music (pitch, dynamics and tempo) as well as learning to keep the beat, sing in tune and play percussion instruments.

Year 1

Students have been introduced to the reading and writing of rhythms using formal notation. They have been working on their pitch by singing and playing on the chime bars, their own short creations of tunes with lyrics. They have enjoyed singing songs about the weather which ties in with the term’s Unit of Inquiry. Ask your first grader to sing “I Love a Rainy Night!”.

Year 2

Students are having fun learning about emotions in music this term. Composers use music to create different moods, and we can use music to change how we are feeling! As the saying goes, ‘Music brings out our happy!’ Some of the songs that they have been enjoying are: ‘The Middle’, ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’, ‘Everyone Belongs’ and ‘Come Together’.

Year 3

In year 3, students have created their own Bush Dance!! They also sang along to some Australian Bush Ballads. Mrs Ratten and Mrs Ullmann asked the students if they thought they should be introduced to ‘old fashioned music and dances’. The students had some great answers about being open minded:

  • ‘It brings love to dance’
  • ‘We can learn more about the early days of Australia’
  • ‘Dancing the Bush Dances brought people together’
  • ‘Because it’s really fun!’
  • ‘We are getting to know new pieces of music’
  • ‘It gave us something different to pop music’
  • ‘The songs and dances showed what the country was like’

Year 4

This term in music, Year 4 students have created original songlines for a famous place in Australia. They have enjoyed listening to some contemporary Australian First Nation performers such as Baker Boy (‘Meditjin’), King Stingray (‘Hey Wanhaka’) and Voyager (‘Promise’)

Year 5 & 6

Students in Year 5 & 6 have been learning to play the ukulele. They have conquered 4 chords which has allowed them to play songs like: Best Day Of My Life, Iko Iko, Polly Wolly Doodle, Smoke On The Water and Good To Be Alive.
