Year 4 News

Literacy

Students completed a learning task today. In the lead up to task, we learnt about the structure and practised writing persuasive pieces. Our topic was, “Computer games are a water of time” OR “Computer games are time well-spent". Take a look below at a selection of essays. We were very proud of the way students designed their pieces and worked with the structure.

Maths

We have continued to explore trading and regrouping with up to five-digit subtraction while also working with the Measurement and Geometry strand of time. Students have enjoyed playing games such as “Scoot” looking at analogue and elapsed time. “One hundred laughs” an addition and subtraction game was enjoyed by students too.

Unit of Inquiry

Students have continued to develop their understandings of their Transdisciplinary theme, ‘How we express ourselves’. All Year 4 students enjoyed a full day incursion called, ‘The Newsroom’. Students experienced the process of brainstorming, researching and then reporting on various breaking news topics. Students unpacked what was true and fake news and understanding different sources of news.  Students experienced deadlines and in groups produced gripping news stories! The newsroom allowed students to experience learning through teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communication, digital literacy and presentation skills.

Wellbeing Incursion & New Play Equipment

Students enjoyed the full day incursion on Monday called “The Superhero in You”. They worked in groups, playing games working on cooperation and roles within a team. Children also made shields called Superhero shields demonstrating their strengths. They also made team posters. Each student had a role within the team so they were all involved and accountable.

Students have all had a chance to experience our wonderful new playground on Wood Street. The equipment promotes gross motor skills that encourage cross patterning, upper body strength, balance, coordination and attention all which help to build aptitude for classroom work. See pictures below.

Year 4 Sport

Every Thursday afternoon Year 4 spend the last hour of the day participating in a game. The wonderful house captains in Year 6 set up, teach, umpire and pack up these games, while the teachers take a backseat and let the year 6’s take the reins! We would like to congratulate the Year 6’s on the marvellous job they have done so far. They use their initiative and leadership skills to teach the year 4’s the game and skills required. Presently we are rotating between speedball, t-ball and chook ball. Earlier in the term we had, cricket, bat tennis and newcombe.
