Year 3 News

Wow it’s been busy in year 3!

We think everyone in year 3 has had a great start to the year and has had so much fun. We have learnt a lot already, maybe because we have really cool, funny, smart and nice teachers. We have had some hard work to do but it has mostly just been fun.

We have made new friends because we have had 3 new kids who have moved schools and came to BNPS.

We have just started subtraction in Maths. Do you think subtraction is fun? We think subtraction is really fun! Subtraction is where you take away instead of adding onto numbers.

In Inquiry, we are trying to persuade the teachers (and Mrs Duffy) to get a class pet. We are all now researching some animals that would make great class pets like a gecko, a goldfish, a hermit crab or a guinea pig. I think we could get a gecko because kids in my class have some allergies.

Science

This week in Science year 3 learnt about coding our Sphero Robots. First, we learnt how to make the robot make a specific shape on the floor. We also learnt how to make the light inside of our robots a different colour. We were also learning how the sun rotates around the earth so to test this we brought our water bottles outside and experimented with shadows by putting them down on the concrete and traced their shadows.

Then about 20 minutes later, we came back outside to see how our shadows had moved, it was really cool. This was one of the best science lessons yet!

Year 3 Sport

Over the last few weeks, we have been learning how to play Rounders. We have played in our houses and in our grades. The year three students have really improved their skills and their understanding of the Rounders rules (which there are lots of!) The last two weeks have been the semi-finals and finals. We had kids to umpire the score in rounders (and teachers of course).

The scores were very close and in the end the Aqua & purple team won. We all had fantastic time.
